Best places to Visit in Calicut

Calicut or Kozhikode is situated in the south Indian state of Kerala on the southwest coast of the Arabian Sea. The district extends from latitude 11°15' N to 75°49' E. Basking in the idyllic setting of the serene Arabian Sea on the west and mesmeric peaks of the Wayanad hills on the east, this district has all the required ingredients to fascinate a tourist.

These are the best places in Calicut to visit.

1.Kappadu Beach
Kappad is the place where Vasco da Gama set foot for the first time when he came to India on May 27, 1498. There is a small stone monument at the beach to commemorate that event.this is best place of scenery also.

2.Pazhassiraja Museum & Ravi varma's Art Gallery

Pazhassirajah Museum is located on the East Hill. It is run by the State Archeological Department. Ancient mural paintings, antique bronzes, old coins, models of temples, and megalithic structures are on display here.Situated next to Pazhassirajah Museum is an art gallery displaying paintings of Raja Ravi Varma

3.Kozhikode Beach

Two crumbling piers, more than hundred years old, stand out into sea at Kozhikode beach. The beach is easily accessible from the city and provides a good view of the setting sun. The place also has a Marine Life Aquarium open whole day.

4.Mananchira Square

Mananchira, which was the palace tank of King Mana Vikrama, has been now turned into a traditional architectural splendor with carpeted green grass and surrounded by ethnic buildings. The place also has a musical fountain.

5. Science Planetarium 

The Science Planetarium at Jaffarkhan Colony is the best place to unravel the mysteries of universe and enlightens about the planets and stars.The Science Center has an interesting array of games, puzzles, and scientific gadgetry, which can keep a person busy for the whole day. The planetarium and Science Center are in the same complex.

6.Beypore

Beypore (11 km) is a small coastal town known for its shipbuilding industry for centuries. It is still a favorite destination to buy large boats.

7.Thusharagiri Waterfalls

Thusharagiri is famous for its waterfalls and lush green forests. It is at a distance of 11 km from Kodenchery, a place abounding in rubber plantations, coconut, pepper, ginger, and spices of all sorts.

8.Kakkayam

The beauty of nature is waiting for the tourists, in Kakkayam. Kakkayam is a perfect example of scenic beauty of nature. The enchanting evergreen forests are the prime attraction in Kakkayam. The place is an ideal destination for adventurers and the nature lovers. It is one of the peaceful and calm virgin villages in Kozhikode which is away from the noises of the city. 9.Peruvannamoozhi Dam

There is another dam at Peruvannamoozhy, 60 km from Calicut. It is a place of beauty, calm, and serenity. The place has a crocodile farm run by the state forest department.

10.Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary

Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary (25 km) is a heaven for migratory birds. Terns, gulls, herons, sandpipers, whimbrels, and other migratory birds flock the place from the month of November and returns only by the end of April. The ideal season to visit is from December to April in the early hours of the day.

11.Vayalada

Quite natural place in kozhikode district of gods own country, well blessed with nature. It is a very unknown, beautiful peak. About 12 km from balusseri. Anyone can get bus to balussery from koyilandi or from kozhikode at any time between 7.00 am and 7.00.pm.  Buses are very less to vayalada. So it is better to go with own vehicles. bike is a better option because road after bus stop is not good. Most roads are with rough stones.

12.Kakkadompoyil

It is situated partly in Kozhikode and Malappuram.A large number of tourists come to Kakkadampoyil to enjoy the cool climate and to stay away from the bustle of the city. Facilities for tourists are not available. Accommodation is available only at Thiruvambady. There are many home-stays and resorts of expensive sort.

13.Sargalaya Arts & Crafts Village

Sargaalaya, the Kerala Arts and Crafts village at Iringal in Kerala is an initiative of the Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala. It is an exclusive place where you can not only pick a product fashioned by the traditional artisans of Kerala but also learn one or two lessons in the subtleties of crafts-making. Conceptualized as a tourist destination, Sargaalaya was developed and implemented on the Responsible Tourism model.

14.Janaki Forest

Janakikad is the destination where you can unwind yourself. Situated in the Maronthongara Panchayat, 7 km from Kuttiyadi, Janakikad comes under the Kuttiyadi range of Kozhikode forest division. Janakikad gets its name from the renowned statesman V. K Krishna Menon’s sister, V. K Janaki Amma, to whom this 131 hectare land once belonged . 

15.Vellari Mala

Vellathil forms is a part of a high hill range of what is otherwise known as Camel's Hump Mountains, a part of the Western Ghats. Most of the hill range falls in the Meppadi Forest Range of South Wayanad Division, with some parts falling in the Thamarassery Range of Kozhikode Division.This block of compact high mountains is floristically and faunistically similar to the Nilgiri Hills.The tallest peak in this range is called Vavul Mala. At an altitude of 2339m, it is the tallest of the Western Ghats to the north of Nilgiri Hills

The Ooty of Malabar-Kakkayam is situated in Kozhikode.It is a extremely beautiful place in Malabar.

We can see some elephants, deers, black monkeys etc. if you are o much luckt, you can see some rare birds and butterflies. We can also see some medicinal plants which are in a threat of extinction. The place is also a habitat for some rare varieties of Orchids and shrubs.

Route to Kakkaym

Kakkayam is situated 50 kms away from Calicut. The dam sight and the waterfall are 14 kms away from the Kakkayam market. This journey will be very interesting. The tourists can approach through Calicut- Balusseri route, Thalayad- Perambra route and from Kurachundu- Kallunode road. The nearest airport is Karipur International Airport and nearest Railway Station is Kozhikode Railway station. Tourists cars are always available from the railway stations and the airports.

Ezra is an Indian Malayalam horror thriller film written and directed by Jay K, starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. Major filming locations were Fort Kochi and Sri Lanka.Principal photography began in late-June 2016. The music of the film features songs composed separately by Rahul Raj and Sushin Shyam.

R a n j a n M a t h e w (Prithviraj) and his wife Priya Raghuram (Priya Anand) relocate from Mumbai to Kochi. At Kochi they move into a lovely old villa and Priya keeps herself busy by decorating the villa with handpicked curios.

In that process Priya comes across a strange looking box at the antique shop of Moosaka (Alencier Ley Lopez). With the entry of the box in to the villa, both Priya and Ranan realise that their peaceful existence has gone on to get disturbed. How do they go on to face the situation and overcome it is what Ezra is all about. Jay K and his co-writer Manu Gopal have come up with a novel concept. Jews have been around in India and Kochi for long, yet no one so far has explored the Jewish background and used “Dybbuk” as an element of horror, till Ezra came along.

The film is technically sound. Sujith Vaassudev’s cinematography is an asset; the songs by Rahul Raj and Sushin Shyam go with the flow. The pace does dip a bit inbetween and the film does not have any jump scary moments as such. And the culmination to the tale is a bit of let-down. But all these do not take away from the fact that the film has a lot of positives going in its favour. Sudev Nair, Vijayaraghavan, Sujith Shankar, Babu Antony and Tovino Thomas play their parts well. Priya Anand makes a confident entry into Malayalam cinema and she compliments Prithviraj well. Prithviraj gets back to form in style with Ezra, as he plays Ranjan Mathew with a lot of maturity.

Ezra certainly a good movie.it is build on a superb storyline.The camera quality was extra ordinary.The film goes through the life of Ranjan.Even though it is categoried as horror,it will not give a horrible effect to us.But the story is a extra ordinary one.The film has little twists and turns.
Any way Ezra make worth your ticket and time.

What is LiFi ?

LiFi, meaning Light Fidelity,is a term coined by pureLiFi co-founder and CSO, Professor Harald Haas, when he demonstrated LiFi for the first time at a TED talk in 2011,and refers to light based communications technology that delivers a high-speed, bidirectional networked, mobile communications in a similar manner as Wi-Fi. LiFi is the use of the visible light portion of the electromagnetic spectrum to transmit information at very high speeds. This is in contrast to established forms of wireless communication such as Wi-Fi which use traditional radio frequency (RF) signals to transmit data.

With LiFi, data is transmitted by modulating the intensity of the light, which is then received by a photo-sensitive detector, and the light signal is demodulated into electronic form. This modulation is performed in such a way that it is not perceptible to the human eye.

LiFi is a category of Optical Wireless Communications (OWC). OWC includes infra-red and ultra-violet communications as well as visible light. However, LiFi is unique in that the same visible light energy used for illumination may also be used for communication.

Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru:A matter of mysterious crime

Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru also known as D-16 ,a Indian Tamil crime thriller film in 2016 written and directed by a 21 year old Karthik Naren, staring Rahman the leading role.featuring predominantly new cast and crew.

The film starting with an averagely made crime scene.its night and raining ,a car came mysteriously.A mystery man steps out from the car.He is Infront of a house. Inside the house there is a man and a woman.They’re in an embrace. The man enters the house. A lifetime of movie-watching tells us that he is a psycho killer, that he’s going to leave behind a couple of corpses, and that the rest of the film – Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru – will detail the hunt for this man and the twisted reason for his crimes.

His narrative pattern also needs to be lauded as he induces layers of suspenseful moments, which keeps you guessing until the very end. It is for sure an impressive way of story telling. In each scene we have a chance to guess what's next but this guy of 21 made his debut film as a great thriller with numerous twists and turns.we can not imagine this film was written and directed by such a 21 man Karthik Naren.

It is not an easy deal to give a spoiler-free review for this one as it is completely knitted with twists and turns. Revealing even one scene from it could seriously affect the movie watching experience.

This film travels through the interpretation of actor Rahman. His last dialogue from the film happens to be, “Since I am narrating this story, I am seen as the hero of the story. Probably if it were from someone else’s angle, I would have been the villain.” The characterization of every lead is such that, they could be seen as both protagonist and antagonist. D-16 is a very matured take on life, something you don’t expect from a 22-year-old.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that Karthick Naren has used sound design and camera angles to narrate the story. Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru has its flaws as well, a constable in Tamil Nadu having high degree English conversation with his superior officer is unbelievable.Though Rahman is fine with his expressions, he still struggles with his Tamil dialogue delivery and not quite convincing as the protagonist.

Despite these minor drawbacks, Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru engages us throughout and keep throwing surprises till the end.

അന്ന് ഒരു അവധിക്കാലം ആയിരുന്നു ഞാൻ ഒരു യാത്ര പോകാൻ തയ്യാർ ആയി നില്കുകയായിരുന്നു. ബസ് എത്തി ഞാൻ അതിൽ കയറി ഒരു വിൻഡോ സീറ്റ് തന്നെ കൈക്കലാക്കി. എന്നും യാത്രയിൽ അത് വളരെ നല്ല അനുഭവം തരുന്ന ഒന്നായിരുന്നു. ബസിൽ കുറച്ചു ദൂരം പിന്നിട്ടപ്പോളായിരുന്നു അതു സംഭവിച്ചത്. എവിടെ നിന്നോ ആരോ വന്നു എന്റെ കൂടെ ഇരുന്നു. ആരാണെന്നു അറിയാൻ നോക്കി, ഒരു പെൺകുട്ടി.

ആരാണെന്നു എനിക്ക് അറിയില്ല പക്ഷെ അവൾ എന്നെ നോക്കി ചിരിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ചോദിച്ചു "എന്നെ ഓർമയില്ലേ ". എന്തു പറയണം എന്നു എനിക്കറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു. അവസാനം ഇടറിയ ശബ്ധത്തിൽ ഞാൻ ഓർമ വരുന്നില്ലെന്ന് പറഞ്ഞു. അവൾ ചിരിച്ചു. എന്നിട്ട് അവൾ അവളെ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തി. ഗായത്രി എന്നായിരുന്നു അവളുടെ പേര്. അവൾ പണ്ട് എന്റെ സ്കൂളിൽ ജൂനിയർ ആയിരുന്നു. അവൾ പിന്നെയും ഒരുപാട് കഥപറഞ്ഞു. പണ്ട് സ്കൂളിൽ ഞാനും കൂട്ടുകാരും ചെയ്ത കുസൃതികൾ. ഒരല്പം അമ്പരപ്പോടെ ഞാൻ ഒക്കെ കേട്ടുനിന്നു. അവളും എന്നെ പോലെ അവധി ദിവസം കുടുംബത്തോടെ പടം കാണാൻ പോവുകയാണ്. ബസിലെ ഒരു മണിക്കൂർ കൊണ്ട് ഞങ്ങൾ നല്ല കമ്പനി ആയി. 

കണ്ടക്റ്റർ വിളിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു അടുത്ത സ്റ്റോപ്പ്‌ കോഴിക്കോട്. സത്യം പറഞ്ഞാൽ സമയം പോയത്‌ അറിഞ്ഞേ ഇല്ല. നല്ല കാഴ്ച കാണാൻ വിൻഡോ സീറ്റിൽ ഇരുന്ന ഞാൻ ഒന്നും കണ്ടില്ല എന്നു തന്നെ പറഞ്ഞാലും അതിശയോക്‌തി ആവില്ല.

അവൾ അവളുടെ അച്ഛനെയും അമ്മയെയും പെട്ടന്ന് തന്നെ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തി. അച്ഛൻ കുറച്ചു കണിശക്കാരൻ ആണ്. അമ്മ വളരെ നല്ല ഒരു സ്ത്രീ. ഒറ്റ മകൾ ആയിരുന്നു അവൾ. എന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാര് തിയേറ്ററിൽ എത്തി എന്നെ വിളിച്ചു. അവർ എന്റെ ടിക്കറ്റ്‌ എടുത്തു കാത്തിരിക്കുകയാണ്. ഞങ്ങൾ അവിടെ വരെ ഒരുമിച്ചു പോയി. അവരോട്  നിന്നും യാത്ര പറഞ്ഞു കൂട്ടുകാരുടെ അടുത്തു പോയി.

ഫിലിം തുടങ്ങി എങ്കിലും എന്റെ കണ്ണുകൾ അവളെ പരതി കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. കൂടെ ഉള്ള മച്ചാൻമാർ എന്തൊക്കെയോ പറയുന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ഞാൻ എന്തോ അതൊന്നും ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചില്ല. കുറെ നോക്കീട്ടും ഞാൻ അവളെ കണ്ടില്ല. ഇടവേള ആയപ്പോൾ പുറത്ത് ഇറങ്ങിയ ഞാൻ രണ്ടു പായ്ക്ക് കടലയും വാങ്ങി. തിരിച്ചു കയറാൻ നോക്കി. അപ്പോൾ പിന്നിൽ നിന്നും അവൾ എന്നെ വിളിച്ചു ചോദിച്ചു ആരെയാ നോക്കി കൊണ്ടിരുന്നത് എന്ന്. എന്നിട്ട് ഒരു കള്ളച്ചിരി. ഞാൻ ഒന്നും പറഞ്ഞില്ല. പിന്നെ പറഞ്ഞു എത്ര തിരക്ക് ഉണ്ടെന്ന് നോക്കിയതാ 

ഫിലിം വീണ്ടും തുടങ്ങി എന്റെ കണ്ണുകളെ എനിക്ക് നിയന്ത്രിക്കാൻ കഴിയുമായിരുന്നില്ല. ആ നിമിഷം എനിക്ക് മനസിലായി എനിക്ക് ഇതുവരെയും തോന്നാത്ത ഒരു വികാരം എന്നിൽ മുളച്ചു എന്ന്. അവിടെ വെച്ചു  ഞാൻ തീരുമാനിച്ചു അവളെ എന്റെ ആക്കാൻ. ഫിലിം കഴിഞ്ഞു ഞാൻ അവളെ നോക്കി പക്ഷെ അവൾ ദൂരെ നടന്നു പോയി. ബസിൽ വെച്ചു അവളുടെ നമ്പർ തന്നിരുന്നു. അത് ആലോചിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഒരു സന്തോഷം.

ഫോണിലൂടെ വഹട്സപ്പിലൂടെ കൂടുതൽ കൂടുതൽ അടുത്തു. രണ്ടു പേർക്കും തമ്മിൽ ഇഷ്ടം ആണെന്ന് ആരും പറയാതെ തന്നെ മനസിലായി. എങ്കിലും അവളുടെ കണ്ണിൽ നോക്കി പറയുന്ന ആ മൂന്നു വാക്കുകൾ പറയാൻ ഞാൻ കാത്തിരുന്നു.

നാളെ വാലന്റൈൻസ് ഡേ പ്രണയം ദിനം എനിക്ക് ഈ ദിവസം ആ സത്യം അവളോട് പറയണം. നാളെ അവൾ വരാം എന്നു സമ്മതം മൂളി,ജോലിയിൽ നിന്നും ലീവ് എടുത്തു. നല്ല നാളെ പ്രതീക്ഷിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് ഞാൻ ഉറങ്ങാൻ കിടന്നു പക്ഷെ ഉറക്കം വരുന്നില്ല. ഞാൻ ആലോചിക്കുകയാണു, എന്റെ ആദ്യ പ്രണയത്തെപ്പറ്റി.......

"ആരാണു ഞാൻ "ഇന്നു ഞാൻ എന്നോട് തന്നെ ചോദിയ്ക്കാൻ ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്ന ഒരു എളുപ്പവും അതിലേറെ കഠിനവുമായ ഒരു ചോദ്യം ആണിത്.

എന്റെ അച്ഛനും അമ്മയ്ക്കും ഞാൻ മകൻ, അനിയനും അനിയത്തിക്കും  ഞാൻ ചേട്ടൻ, എന്റെ കൂട്ട്കാർക്ക് ഞാൻ "ബ്രോ ", "Chunk ","മച്ചാൻ " അല്ലെങ്കിൽ പറയാൻ പറ്റാത്ത ചിലത് (@$$@##). പലരും  എന്റെ പേര് വിളിക്കുന്നു . എന്നാൽ കേവലം ഒരു പേരിൽ എന്തിരിക്കുന്നു.

ഞാൻ ഭൂമിയിൽ എത്തിയ മുതൽ എന്തെല്ലാം ആയി ഞാൻ എന്ന് എനിക്ക് തന്നെ അറിയില്ല. ഓർമ്മ വെയ്ക്കുന്ന കാലത്തിനും മുൻപ് തന്നെ ഞാൻ നന്ദു ആയി ചക്കര ആയി മുത്ത് ആയി അങ്ങനെ പലതും. പിന്നെ എപ്പോഴോ ഞാൻ അനുവിന്ദ് ആയി.

സ്കൂളിൽ പോയതിൽ പിന്നെ അധ്യാപകർക്ക് ഞാൻ മിടുക്കനും പൊട്ടനും കുരുത്തം കെട്ടവനും ആയി. പിന്നീടെപ്പോ തോന്നിയ പ്രണയത്താൽ ഞാൻ ഒരു lover ആയി. ക്ലാസ്സിൽ നനനായി പഠിക്കാൻ ശ്രമിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ പഠിപ്പിസ്റ്റ് ആയി . ആദ്യ പ്രണയം പൊട്ടി ഇരുന്നപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഒരു ശശി ആയി. ക്ലാസ്സിൽ പഠിക്കാതെ ആയപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഉഴപ്പൻ ആയി. മലയാള സിനിമ യുടെ സ്വകാര്യ അഹങ്കാരമായ ലാലേട്ടനെയും ഇന്ത്യൻ ക്രിക്കറ്റ്  ലോകപ്രസക്തമാക്കിയ സച്ചിൻ ടെണ്ടുൽക്കറെയും  ആരാധിച്ചപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഒരു ആരാധകൻ ആയി.

പ്ലസ്‌ ടു വിനു ശേഷം എന്തുചെയ്യണം എന്നറിയാതെ നിന്നപ്പോൾ കൂട്ടുകാരെപ്പോലെ  തന്നെ റിപീറ്റ് ചെയ്യാൻ പോയപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ റിപീറ്റർ. പരീക്ഷ എഴുതാൻ ധൈര്യം കിട്ടാൻ അമ്പലത്തിൽ പോയപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ഭക്തൻ ആയി മാറി. വഴിയിൽ ഇരുന്ന ഏതോ ഒരു കൊച്ചുകുട്ടിക്ക് ഭക്ഷണം കൊടുത്തപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ അവർക്ക് ദൈവം ആണത്രേ.

നാട്ടിലെ ഉത്സവത്തിന്‌ പഴയ കൂട്ടുകാരിയെ കണ്ടപ്പോൾ കൂട്ടുകാർക്കു ഞാൻ വായിനോക്കി പഞ്ചാര ഒക്കെ ആയി. പിറകിൽ നിന്നും ആരോ വിളിച്ചിട്ടു ഞാൻ കേൾക്കാതിരുന്നപ്പോൾ ഞാൻ ജാഡക്കാരൻ ആയി.

എന്റെ ഇരുപതു  വർഷം നീണ്ട ഈ ജീവിതത്തിൽ ഞാൻ എന്താണ് എന്ന് ഇതുവരെയും എനിക്ക് മനസിലാക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ല. ഇപ്പോഴും ആ ചോദ്യം മനസിൽ മായാതെ കിടക്കുന്നു "ശരിക്കും ആരാണു ഞാൻ, who am I".ഇനിയും എന്തൊക്കെയോ ആവാൻ ബാക്കിയുണ്ട് ഒരു പക്ഷേ എനിക്ക് ഇതിന്റെ ഉത്തരം ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ അവസാനം കിട്ടും എന്നു പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കട്ടെ....
